Meet Lil Joe & Inigo: The Gulfarium’s Newest (and Most Adorable) Residents!

February 14, 2025

If you haven’t been to the Gulfarium lately, here’s your excuse to plan a visit—two new manatee residents have officially moved into Manatee Cove! Lil Joe and Inigo, a pair of rescued manatees, are settling into their newly renovated home, and they’re already stealing hearts.

This isn’t just any manatee exhibit—it’s a carefully designed sanctuary that gives these gentle giants the extra care they need. Originally a dolphin habitat, the 300,000-gallon space has been reimagined with underwater viewing windows, comfy resting ledges (because even manatees need their chill time), and a top-tier medical area to keep them healthy.

So, who are Lil Joe and Inigo? These two previously lived at The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT but needed a long-term home where they could continue their rehabilitation journey. Now, as the Gulfarium becomes the first facility in the Florida Panhandle to care for rescued manatees requiring extended treatment, Lil Joe and Inigo will play an important role in educating visitors about manatee conservation.

The Gulfarium’s new partnership with the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) means this initiative is more than just a home for these lovable sea cows—it’s a step forward in protecting a species that desperately needs our help. With more manatees facing challenges in the wild, facilities like this are essential for giving them a second chance.

Want to see them up close? Head to the Gulfarium to visit Manatee Cove, listen to daily educational chats, and learn how you can make a difference in manatee conservation. And trust us—one look at Lil Joe and Inigo, and you’ll be hooked!
